Merrythought have lovingly created commemorative teddy bears to mark many major royal occasions, each handmade in the original Ironbridge factory and sought-after by collectors around the world.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Commemorative Teddy Bear
As Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrated 70 years on the throne in 2022, Merrythought proudly unveiled ‘The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Commemorative Teddy Bear’, a collector’s piece like no other.
Since Her Majesty was the first British monarch to achieve such accolade, it was befitting for this iconic bear to be crafted customised platinum-tipped diamond white mohair plush, and presented wearing a splendid coronation robe. The robe featured satin lining, fine Italian tassels and extensive gold thread embroidery, co-ordinating with the dates of reign and crown embroidered onto her left paw.
The ‘pièce de résistance’ to this bear’s ensemble was undoubtedly the crown; an impressive silver-plated replica of the Imperial state crown, which Her Majesty wore as she left Westminster Abbey during her coronation. Adorned with 26 glass gemstones, once placed upon the head of this unique bear, it created a finishing touch of exceptional elegance.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Commemorative Teddy Bear proved an exquisite tribute to a remarkable milestone, and soon after news of Her Majesty’s sad passing broke out, this unique limited-edition bear sold out almost immediately.
HM Queen Elizabeth II Celebration Bear
As we approached the first Christmas since Her Majesty left our world, we humbly offered the ‘HM Queen Elizabeth II Celebration Bear’ in honour of her incredible life and service. Created in her image and carefully brought to life by our skilled team using the finest dusky-pink mohair plush, this beautiful bear features deep blue eyes and a hand-stitched smile to give an air of friendliness and integrity, synonymous with our former monarch. The left paw is embroidered in gold thread to indicate Her Majesty’s lifetime.
The bear’s outfit is inspired by Elizabeth’s favourite clothing, in the bold royal blue colour that she wore so often to public engagements. Her hat is accessorised with pretty organza flower detailing, co-ordinating perfectly with an elegant pearl necklace.
However, the real showpiece is a detailed replica of the Prince Albert Brooch. The original gold-set sapphire and diamond piece of jewellery was given to Queen Victoria by her husband-to-be, Prince Albert, and went on to become Elizabeth’s brooch of choice for many royal occasions.
