Description

This adorable golden-blonde mohair teddy bear was specially created to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the National Health Service. Endearingly named after the organisation's founder Aneurin Bevan, he is a limited edition of 1948pcs, marking the year this much-loved organisation began. Bevan is a particularly characterful bear, made from tousled blonde mohair with a gold base that marries up beautifully with his sandy-gold cotton velvet paws. Designed with all the family in mind, he subtly features the coloured outlines of a grandparent, parent and child embroidered onto his left paw, and is neatly finished with a high-quality blue satin bow. He is our NHS Teddy bear and £15 from each Bevan sold will help raise funds for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), which runs the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital, in Telford, Merrythought's local hospitals.

Finest Materials

At Merrythought we source only premium materials to lovingly create our teddy bears. The best quality mohair or alpaca plush is selected and neatly cut to each soft toy’s unique set of patterns, many of which are based on original templates from the earliest years. Incorporating other natural fabrics, such as wool felt and cotton, the pieces are expertly worked with traditional needle and thread to form each part of the bear.

British Craftsmanship

The eyes, legs, arms and joints are skilfully sewn and assembled by hand, gradually creating the recognisable characteristics of the Merrythought bear. Taking time to fill the toy to an optimum weight, it is then ready for the finishing touches; a carefully hand-embroidered nose and smile, a thorough brush and trim, and a neatly tied ribbon bow.
